Siniša Petrović is a tenured Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, renowned for his expertise in European Union law, sports law, and particularly in the intersection of public state law and professional sports, with a focus on specific state intervention in sports. Born in Zagreb in 1966, he holds a PhD from the University of Zagreb and has built a distinguished academic and professional career.
Professor Siniša Petrović teaches courses in Commercial Law, Company Law, Competition Law, and Sports Law at the University of Zagreb, reflecting his broad legal knowledge and his specialization in the legal regulation of sports. His scholarly work includes several books and over 130 papers covering commercial law, company law, competition law, sports law, European law, and public intervention in economic sectors, including sport.
His professional experience is extensive and international in scope. He has served as an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS/TAS) since 2017 and was a long-standing member of the Sports Arbitration Council of the Croatian Olympic Committee (2009–2023). Siniša Petrović’s expertise in EU law is demonstrated by his role as a special advisor to the Croatian Prime Minister for European law and as a negotiator in Croatia’s EU accession, where he was responsible for key chapters including company law, intellectual property, and the freedom of establishment and services.
Siniša Petrović’s work on public state law and professional sports is particularly influential. He has critically examined the role of state intervention in sports governance, advocating for transparent and accountable regulatory frameworks.
