Born in Uruguay, she holds a law degree from the University of the Republic and a Master’s in International Commercial Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Alexandra Gómez Bruinewoud has been a pivotal figure at FIFPRO, the global players’ union, where she has served for over a decade and was recently appointed as Legal Director after 12 years as a key member of the legal team. In this capacity, she has provided strategic counsel to professional footballers and their unions worldwide, advocating for players’ rights and welfare at the highest levels of football governance.
Her leadership has been instrumental in major legal reforms, most notably co-authoring the first-ever FIFA maternity regulations for professional women players in 2021 and their significant update in 2024, setting new standards for gender equality and player protection.
As the first woman to serve as a judge on FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) since 2017, Alexandra Gómez Bruinewoud has played a critical role in resolving complex disputes under the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP), shaping the jurisprudence that underpins global football transfers and contracts.
