Alexander BIELEFELD
Director Global Policy & Strategic Relations at FIFPRO
Alexander Bielefeld is Director Global Policy & Strategic Relations at FIFPRO, the global union for professional footballers, where he has spent almost a decade shaping policy and governance frameworks that impact players’ working lives worldwide. In this role, he represents player unions in high‑level employment negotiations across international football, addressing issues such as competitive balance, financial regulation, workload, health and safety, and the protection of player rights in an increasingly data‑driven industry.
His work places him at the heart of debates on how global football should be governed to align commercial growth with fair labour standards and human rights.
Alexander Bielefeld’s expertise in football governance is grounded in extensive engagement with stakeholders across the ecosystem, from international federations and leagues to governments and organisations such as the ILO and European institutions. He has been a lead negotiator on key global frameworks, including a Global Labour Agreement and a Charter of Player Data Rights, which seek to embed player protections and shared decision‑making into the regulatory architecture of the sport. By coordinating FIFPRO’s knowledge centre, Player IQ, and its Player Workload Monitoring Platform, he ensures that governance discussions are informed by robust evidence on scheduling, performance, and player welfare.
Before joining FIFPRO, Alexander Bielefeld honed his policy and strategic communications skills at Burson‑Marsteller’s sports practice, advising on public affairs and stakeholder relations in the European sports sector.
Alexander Bielefeld holds advanced degrees in international sport policy, EU international relations and sport governance from institutions including the University of Brighton, the College of Europe, and INSEAD providing a theoretical and practical foundation for his work on complex, multi‑level governance in football. Through this combination of academic training and frontline collective bargaining, Alexander Bielefeld has become a leading voice on how global football governance must evolve to better reflect players’ interests and the broader public good.
